Nigel StewartEarly InfluencesWhen he was in Art School in the late 60's Nigel Stewart was influenced by Pop Art and his subjects tended to reflect American culture. In the early seventies he realised that he was more interested in the relationship of colour than figurative painting and that the images he had chosen to paint previously had been a vehicle with which to explore colour. This realisation led to a change in direction and in 1975 he began painting non representational work. "I recall Paul Klee talking about his drawings as taking a line for a walk. I think in my work I go for a walk with colour."
